NXDN™ Forum Expands NXDN Technical Standards
Suwanee, GA – September 16, 2011 - The Chair of the NXDN™ Forum announces the expansion of the technical standards with the adoption of AES and DES encryption algorithms.
As the penetration of NXDN™ has gained traction throughout the two-way radio market, the
requests for increased secure communications has grown to be an important requirement.. While
the original NXDN™ standard included a 15-bit digital voice scrambler feature, the next step in the
development of the standard was higher level encryption.
As a result, the NXDN™ specifications are being updated now to include AES and DES encryption algorithms.
The initial details are as follows:
AES Encryption for NXDN™:
256-bit AES for NXDN™ conventional mode
256-bit AES for Type-C trunking
256-bit AES for Type-D trunking
DES Encryption for NXDN™:
56-bit DES for NXDN™ conventional mode
56-bit DES for Type-C trunking
56-bit DES for Type-D trunking
The current plans call for these encryption additions to be finalized and added to the NXDN™ standards in October 2011.
